Gonjasufi (born Sumach Ecks, aka Sumach Valentine, ca. 1978)[1] is a rapper, singer, disc jockey and yoga teacher from San Diego, California and currently living in Las Vegas, Nevada.[2] Ecks was born to a Mexican mother and an American-Ethiopian father.[1] He has been releasing music since the early 1990s among the San Diego Hip Hop scene, notably with the Masters of the Universe crew.[2][3] Ecks gained notice from Warp Records in 2008 after an appearance on Californian musician Flying Lotus’ album Los Angeles, where he sings on the track “Testament”.[3] His Warp debut album, A Sufi and a Killer was released on March 8, 2010.[4] Ecks’ voice was described by Pitchfork Media as “a scraggly, scary, smoked-out croak that creeps like the spiritual offspring of George Clinton and Leadbelly”.[3] He attributes his singing voice to his day job teaching yoga, where he must “project from [his] stomach more”.[3]

Whenever I play this I usually end singing Oscillations over and over again.

It’s a really hard album to describe and I can only recommend listening

with headphones for the full sonic attack

You could go to any part of Neil Young’s career and find something fantastic.

and for a career that spans decades that’s some going. This album is near perfect,

 the guiar, the harmonica and Neils voice in perfect harmony. The stand out tracks are

one to ten.

They may have made their money with people shouting Lager, Lager in nightclubs through out the

UK but for me this album is their best. Opening with the aptly titled Dark and long this album just flows

all the way through. Any track could go down as a classic but for me the final two tracks

River of Bass and ME are spectacular

One of the greatest albums of all time in my humble opinion.

Very little else makes me feel more like summer. From the opening Alone again you are

transported into a hippie cloud. I had the honour of seeing Arthur Lee play live a few times

before he died.  all of them sadly small venues, but he rocked. A picture of Arthur is on our first

album learn and grow as our small tribute to him.

Sufjan is one of the greatest working talents out there and his music can go from beauty to madness in the blink of an eye. All of his albums seem to get a great deal of airtime over here and we think this new one will also be a constant go to.
